Nederlands Dans Theater
Shortly after its founding, Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) broke through internationally with innovative performances in Paris. It was in 1963 that the company performed in the current Théâtre de Ville pieces by Hans van Manen, Glen Tetley and Ben Harkarvy. The enthused audience included the director of the Empire Theatre in Sutherland, who immediately booked NDT for that winter. A flux of positive reviews in the British press resulted in an invite from the famous dance stage Sadler's Wells in London.
The next highlight was the tour to Jacob Pillow’s Festival, nearby New York. For two weeks NDT performed in a sold out wooden theater in the forests of Berkshire Hills. The tour received raving reviews in the New York Times and the New York Herald Tribune. These early successes set the tone for NDT's leading position in the international world of contemporary dance .
The main company NDT 1 as well as the junior company NDT 2 tour each season to prestigious theaters and festivals in Europe, America, Asia and Australia.
“Unpredictable NDT is memorably modern”
“If you see only one live performance this year… Nederlands Dans Theater is the one to see.”
