NDT presents MOTUS II | 10 oct Trouw Amsterdam (Sold out!)

11 Sep 2013

MOTUS is motion of body and mind. MOTUS takes ballet from NDT’s repertoire out of its traditional environment. MOTUS brings NDT to buildings not constructed for theatrical performance. MOTUS II intensifies the experience of dance by using the raw, industrial and sometimes claustrophobic setting of Trouw. It forces the audience to be up-close with the dancers, to feel their movements, energy and minuscule gestures. Resulting in a wildly confrontational experience, a collective physical sensation.

After the overwhelming success of MOTUS on 21 March 2013, NDT presents a second exciting edition. The excellent dancers of NDT will perform several ballets of the innovative choreographers Sol León & Paul Lightfoot, Johan Inger en Sharon Eyal & Gai Behar. And MOTUS III? Just follow us...

Why I Never Became a Dancer
MOTUS II toont ook hoe bevrijdend dans kan zijn. In the video installation Why I Never Became a Dancer Tracey Emin (Londen, 1963) tells a traumatic story from her past. The work features home video-style shots of the artists home town and an autobiographical voice over. The memories and images evoked are connected to feelings typical of adolescence: desire, anger, and boredom. By sharing experiences and emotions normally repressed out of shame, she regained power over her emotional life. The film movingly ends with the artist dancing, a classic closing scene in which she liberates herself from her past. The work is part of the collection of Stedelijk Museum.
