Ayman Harper is a stager, choreographer and educator committed to the performing and visual arts community.
A 25-year veteran, he has performed in over 20 countries and taught for companies and universities across five continents.
As a former dancer and choreographer for The Forsythe Company, Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT 2), and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago 2, he has collaborated with and performed works by some of his field’s most influential artists.
Notably, in 2009, Harper was extended an invitation from Mikhail Baryshnikov to accompany him in a performance for the Baryshnikov Arts Center Gala.
Beyond the scope of dance, his tap work has been featured on the track You from the album The Marriage of True Minds by electronic musicians Matmos. Harper collaborated with New York musician Arto Lindsay and Thai visual artist Rirkrit Tiravanijaa to create a parade for Paris’ Nuit Blanche Festival followed by an installation at the Saturn V rocket for Johnson Space Center’s Houston,Texas.
Harper has always been driven to pursue his love of pedagogy alongside his performance and choreographic career. Through this he has developed an approach to instruction that encourages non violent communication and promotes the exploration of artistic sensibilities, both in theory and physical practice, while emphasising the universality and accessibility of movement to all that wish to experience it.
